The Social Democratic Party's proposal for Prime Minister, Sevil Shhaideh, is reportedly raising concerns among Romania’s international partners. The potential PM’s husband is said to be a supporter of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, a leader whose authority has been challenged by the U.S. and other Western countries. Shhaideh, of Tatar and Turkish origins, would be the first woman and fist Muslim prime minister of Romania. Assad has been accused of alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity by Western countries, but has Russia's support.
