Ghosts of the Balkans' violent past were resurrected when Albania's Prime Minister said Kosovo - the former Serb region now independent and aligned with Albania - would face "unification" with Albania either through both becoming EU members or "the classical way." His statement was condemned strongly by EU officials and Serbia's president.
