The president of Romania has rejected a Muslim candidate for prime minister proposed by the nation's Social Democratic Party. Sevil Shhaideh, would have been the EU nation’s first female and Muslim prime minister. Klaus Iohannis did not elaborate on his reason for his end-of-year decision to reject the candidacy of Shhaideh, a 52-year-old politician of Turkish origin who comes from Romania's 65,000-member Muslim community, but her husband is a public supporter of Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad.
