#BRAZIL: Judge Halts Frmr. Pres. Lula's Appointment As Chief-Of-Staff; Faces Charges And Arrest

A judge has suspended former Pres. Luiz InĂ¡cio Lula da Silva’s appointment as Pres. Dima Rousseff's chief of staff moments after he was sworn in, fearing the move by Rousseff made the appointment to shield him from prosecution. He is faces charges and immanent arrest over a corruption scandal. The appointment prompted anti-government demonstrations across Brazil, as a secretly recorded phone call between the two suggested his appointment to a ministerial position was motivated by a desire to avoid prosecution.
