[world politics news]

Transportation Minister Jo Johnson has resigned from Theresa May's cabinet over her Brexit plan, and is calling for a new referendum on leaving the European Union. "The government’s proposals will see us out of Europe, yet run by Europe, bound by rules which we will have lost a hand in shaping," he said. He said he would vote against her plan, the Chequers Agreement, and said it was right to ask the voters to "confirm their decision to leave the EU and, if they choose to do that, to give them the final say on whether we leave with the Prime Minister’s deal or without it." Johnson is the brother of Boris Johnson, May's former foreign minister, who resigned this summer over her handling of Brexit. Boris, however, opposes a new vote.
