#JAPAN: Tiny Party Hope To Make It Big Supporting Legalized Medical Marijuana

[world politics news]

Japan's tiny New Renaissance Party hopes to make a big name for itself by being the first to adopt a platform calling for an end to a ban on the medical use of marijuana. The government says its effectiveness has not been proved, despite backers around the world making claims to the contrary. Japan outlaws owning and growing marijuana. The idea of medical uses, however, is popular with the growing elderly population. "Faced with this sharp gap between Japan and the rest of the world, the public are at a loss which to believe," said party spokesman Saya Takagi.
