Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced a major restructuring of government four years ahead of the end of his current term in office. The proposed changes will face a national referendum.

The move to restructure government will be seen as a way for Putin to hold onto power after his term ends in 2024. He has held power in various positions in Russia since 1999.
