The nation's Constitutional Court is hearing a case arguing that requiring candidates to be members of political parties violates their rights. Plaintiffs led by New Nation Movement and the Indigenous First Nation Advocacy South Africa argued that the Electoral Act was unconstitutional for barring people from standing for public office without joining political parties.
