#CZECHIA: Social Democrats Add New Faces, Policies To Boost Popularity

The Czech Republic Social Democrats met this past weekend to add new faces and new platform planks designed to boost it from its current fourth place in national polling.

In 2017, only 15 of their candidates were elected to the lower house of Parliament – the worst result in party history. They are junior partners in the current government of Prime Minister Andrej Babiš’s technocratic-populist ANO Party.

The Social Democrats define themselves as far-Left vanguards against a slide towards illiberalism. Their newly outlined top priorities include boosting citizens’ participation in political decisions and cutting working hours without lowering salaries.
