Diane James has been elected the new leader of the UK Independence Party, after winning the contest to succeed Nigel Farage. Once a Conservative supporter, she distanced herself from the party and became an independent councilor in 2007, before joining UKIP. One of UKIP's most fluent media performers, James, 56, has held several high profile roles in the party, including the deputy chairmanship and spokeswoman for justice and home affairs.
