#JAPAN: Re-Marriage After Divorce To Be Allowed After 100 Days; Currently Banned Within 6 Months

Japan's parliament has revised the century-old Civil Code to shorten the remarriage ban period for women to 100 days of divorce from six months. The changes came after the Supreme Court, in a closely watched decision last December, ruled that the six-month ban, designed to avoid paternity disputes over a baby delivered by a remarried woman, was an excessive restriction on the freedom of marriage.
